Enabling enterprise scale simulation deployment

Simulations at the enterprise level are becoming a more widespread and integral part of daily workflows. Moving beyond previous generations of isolated solutions that provided static reports, modern integrated simulations provide up-to-date and interactive insights. Simulation is a key component of the insight-generation ecosystem alongside BI, AI, and optimization technologies.

Enabling integrated simulation at the enterprise level is AnyLogic Private Cloud – a platform for securely managing, sharing, and running simulation models. Hosted privately or through a cloud provider, this model manager lets you integrate simulations into your workflows inside and outside your organization.

In the webinar AnyLogic Private Cloud: Enabling Enterprise Scale Simulation Deployment, AI & Simulation Program Manager Dr. Arash Mahdavi and Program Support Specialist Jeff Wirtz provided an overview of the platform and detailed its main features. This blog post summarizes the Private Cloud platform and introduces the recording with Q&A session.

Overview

The first experience of AnyLogic Private Cloud for most people is the Gallery, a place where you can select which simulation model to work with. Selecting a model takes you to its page, where you can see its description, a list of experiments, and a window with a play button that launches an instance of the model running with animation.

Without animation, simulations can run much faster. This is an advantage of experiments, which run as fast as possible and take advantage of the web browser interface to display results. Experiments can run in parallel instances and the results compared from within the interface.

During the webinar, the setup and configuration of experiments is demonstrated, including how data can be imported and exported as well.

Model input and output

Inputs and outputs are significant in many simulation experiments and AnyLogic Cloud gives many options for working with them.

Files set to upload during a model run can configure parameters, create parameterized agent populations, import data from an Excel file, and more. Any file type is supported, including ZIP.

Furthermore, file as output is an option for model runs. This functionality allows custom Excel reports, the collection of execution logs in CSV files, and the generation of JSON files for visualization in tools such as PowerBI and Tableau. It is also possible to export experiment data from the model manger as Excel or JSON files.

The webinar demonstrates these capabilities by configuring the location of facilities in a delivery network. The results are then presented in the model interface as well as being available to download in Excel format. Also shown is the model manager’s facility to export experiment data in Excel or JSON formats. All input and output data are included, as well as simulation model details.

API

The model manager may be viewed as a wrapper providing multiple APIs. For example, developers can use the JavaScript API for creating a custom web UI, or the Java API in an analytical workflow, or the Python API for interacting with learning agents in an AI setup.

The webinar shows the implementation of a custom web UI and highlights the supporting API documentation.

Admin

The Administrator Panel provides access to status information for AnyLogic Private Cloud installations, their user settings and permissions, various customization possibilities, and controls for nodes, services, and tasks.

The status panel indicates information relating to the installation, its current state, and whether any errors are being reported. It is a quick way to check if anything might prevent normal operation.

User settings can be managed entirely within AnyLogic Cloud, with accounts for users and admin, or connected for enterprise authorization using LDAP or Active Directory.

All aspects of administration are covered in the webinar along with demonstrations of how they work. You can also learn more in the Administration Guide.
